Summer has now gone – the evening are becoming darker, trees are starting to lose their leaves and summer salads are being replaced by root vegetables! Today we attended Harvest Festival – extremely apt as yesterday the potato harvest was completed – stored and now awaiting bagging as required. This year we will be able to offer potatoes in bags as follows:- | 5 kgs | 12.00 | | 12.5 kgs | 6.50 | | 5 kgs | 3.50 | The bags can be delivered with your normal box delivery and, if they are kept in a cool dark place have a long life at this time of year. Reds are Robinta, whites are Cara and Valor; we also have Charlotte – salad potatoes available. Next week – 21st October – sees the start of Dorset Food Week. We will be holding an Open Afternoon on that day from 2 o’clock onwards and invite all our customers to come along and meet us and see how we operate. There will be veg available to buy, refreshments available and, for those who enjoy a good walk – the best view in Dorset (weather permitting). Please come – bring your friends/neighbours/family and help spread the word about local food. Although there are 75 days until Christmas, there are not that many days left for you to order your turkey; if you would like one of our own home-grown, free range bronze turkeys this year please order NOW – early ordering is essential, with over half already spoken for so please don’t delay, book now to avoid disappointment. Winter veg have benefited from the recent rain; parsnips now coming available to be followed shortly by winter greens and plenty of squash for winter warming soup. |
